Suitable for men and women of any age (especially those who are interested, but don't want to learn with their children). The class has become popular with younger women also)
What you should get out of it:
Martial arts help flexibility, fitness, confidence, coordination, spatial awareness and build an understanding of movement that is helpful in all racket and ball sports
These classes are intended to promote basic fitness and flexibility in the context of learning Tae Kwon Do techniques and patterns
Participants should be able to progress to at least Blue belt over 2½ years. Staying with formal grading structures beyond that would require attendance at one of the other classes
Basic self defence moves are also taught
Basic Fitness: |
Exercises with an emphasis on warm-up and stretching |
Techniques: |
Punches, blocks, kicks and combinations. Self-defence moves including the usage of voice and stance, grips, disengages and basic pressure points |
Patterns: |
Gradings in ITF style Tae Kwon Do four times yearly. Sagi Charugi, Sagi Makei, Chon Ji (up to Yellow belt) Dan Gun, Do San (up to Green belt) Won Yo, Ji Goong (up to Blue belt) |
Mock Fights: |
Non-contact sparring and shadow boxing. This assists in learning distances and timing |
Equipment:
Doboks are compulsory after first grading
Loose training clothes
Bare feet (although martial arts slippers are sold in some sports outlets)
Compulsory for sparring:
Gloves
Foot pads
Shin pads
Gum shield
Recommended for sparring:
