Meeting:
Saturday morning 10:45 - 11:15
Minimum 4 Students - Maximum 12
For children 7-13 and any parents who wish to train with them
Parents are welcome to join in, to watch, or to buy a cup of coffee at the Risebridge lounge and read a paper
What you get out of it:
Martial arts help confidence, balance, coordination, spatial awareness and build an understanding of movement that is helpful in all racket and ball sports
These classes are not intended to teach children to fight, although some self defence techniques are taught along with the philosophy "disengage and run"
Participants should progress through the first two belts in a year

Class structure:
Basic Fitness: |
Standard exercises, games and relays. We avoid over-stretching |
Techniques: |
Basic punches, kicks and combinations. Self-defence disengage moves |
Patterns: |
Initial Gradings in ITF style Tae Kwon Do four times yearly. Sagi Charugi, Sagi Makei, (Yellow tag) Chon Ji (Yellow belt) Dan Gun, (Green tag) Do San (Green belt) |
Mock Fights: |
Non-contact play fighting and shadow boxing, which assists in learning distances and timing. (Note gum-shields are recommended as control is imperfect) |
Equipment:
Doboks are compulsory after the first grading (Please note, however, that our experience is that kids want the uniform sooner rather than later)
T-Shirts and any dark shorts or track-suit type bottoms
Bare feet
Mouthguards are recommended
No gloves or pads are needed at this level
